J.A. MUSTAPHA
At the age of 15, Jihad Mustapha fled his war-torn homeland of Lebanon and came to New York City. He landed at FJK airport with $80 in his pocket and two pair of pants. He spoke no English.
He went on to graduate from Wayne State University and St. George University School of Medicine. He completed a medical residency at Spectrum Health Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1999 and Fellowships in both Cardiology (2002) and Interventional Cardiology (2003) at Louisiana State University School of Medicine.
Today, Dr. Mustapha is a successful board-certified interventional cardiologist practicing at Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, MI where he is the Director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories, Director of Endovascular Interventions and Director of Cardiovascular Research. He is Associate Professor of Medicine at Michigan State University, Director of the West Michigan Save a Leg Save a Life Foundation and Founder and Director of the AMPutation Prevention Symposium (AMP). He specializes in minimally invasive, non-surgical therapy for heart and peripheral vascular disease. He has advanced training in coronary stent and complex peripheral vascular disease treatments including laser, atherectomy, and totally occluded arteries. He has multiple publications, including those on his area of special interest, critical limb ischemia and amputation prevention. He is an innovator, holding multiple medical device patents.
Dr. Mustapha lives with his wife, Laurie, and three children Ali, Jenna and Nabil in Ada, Michigan.
