The Impacts of Compassion & Service

JOSE BRIGHT

Jose Bright is a consultant, teacher, speaker, author, and attorney living in South Africa. He is the director of the Bright Group, where he has consulted for the South African government in areas including strategic management, diversity, globalization, and economic development. In 2001, Mr. Bright founded the Teboho Trust in Soweto, a highly successful educational support platform for orphans, vulnerable and at-risk children and adolescents. The model, supported and owned by the community, also focuses on small business development and incubation for the caregivers of these children in Soweto.

Mr. Bright grew up in Compton, CA in a close-knit family of eight children. He earned a B.A. in political science and Spanish literature from Loyola Marymount University and a J.D. from Loyola Law School, and studied abroad in Madrid, Spain. Prior to moving to South Africa in 1995, he lived in Washington, D.C., where he served in a variety of government appointments in the executive and legislative branches.

Mr. Bright is currently interested in the power of 21st-century technology to serve and educate vulnerable and at-risk children, and he believes that the greatest gift is discovering and serving those who are often ignored and forgotten.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
